Lesson Policies

  • Release Forms - Prior to your first lesson, all required paperwork and release forms are to be completed and given to Elk Grove Riding Club.

  • Lesson Payment - Lessons are sold in monthly packages. The lesson time and ponies are reserved for you for the entire month. Payment is due by the first of each month and considered late by the 5th. There is a $25 service charge for late payments. If payment is not received by the 10th of the month, the student will not be allowed to ride.

  • Riding Attire - Approved riding helmet with appropriate riding boots are required. Hair is to be up under the helmet or in a ponytail. Shirts with a collar, sweater or fitted jacket are recommended. Pants are to be fitted and jeans are not suggested.

  • Lesson Expectations and Duration - Students are expected to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled lesson in order to allow time for grooming and tacking up of their horse. Private lessons are 30 minutes while group lessons will last longer depending on the size of the group. Lessons are scheduled back-to-back, so unfortunately, students that are late will receive less time in the saddle. After the lesson is completed, students need to allow 15 minutes to cool out and groom their horse. Lastly, all riding equipment is expected to be cleaned and hung prior to leaving the facility.

  • Lessons - Two lessons per week are required. The first lesson will be focused on flat work. The second lesson will be focused on jumping. Flat work is the foundation for good jumping and it is imperative that students learn both. Flat lessons may also including going over poles on the ground.

  • Spectators - When on the premises, siblings must remain with parents. Dogs are not allowed on the facility.

  • Lesson Cancellation and Make-Up Policies - Lesson slots are held for the entire month. Should you know in advance that you will miss a lesson, you are responsible for paying for that lesson time that was scheduled. Clients will be allowed to make-up one lesson per month. Students are expected to call at least 24 hours in advance to be eligible for a make-up lesson and must be scheduled within 30 days of absence. Lessons that are missed cannot be deducted from the amount due. No-shows or late calls forfeit the lesson.

  • Barn Closures - If Elk Grove is closed during a scheduled lesson, we will contact you as soon as possible to reschedule. Lessons that are missed will be credited on your next monthly invoice.
